THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY - SEPTEMBER 28TH

1919 - Fastest major league game played in only 51 minutes as the Giants beat the Phillies 6-1.
1920 - Eight Chicago White Sox players were indicted for throwing the 1919 World Series.  The event is commonly know as the "Black Sox Scandal".
1930 - New York Yankee great Lou Gehrig's errorless streak end at 885 consecutive games.
1941 - Ted Williams ends the season with a .406 batting average.
1951 - Norm Van Brocklin of the Rams passes for an NFL record 554 yards.
1955 - First World Series color TV broadcast was aired on NBC-TV as the Yankees beat the Dodgers.
1960 - Jack Fisher surrenders final HR #521 of Ted William's career.
1976 - Muhammad Ali beats Ken Norton in 15 rounds for the Heavyweight boxing title.
1986 - Tight End Brian Foster of Rhode Island catches NCAA record of 18 passes for 327 yards.
1997 - 32nd Ryder Cup:  Europe wins 14 1/2 - 13 1/2 to retain the cup at Sotogrande, Spain.
