1928 - The Cardinals set NL record of 18 men left on base beating Phillies 8-6.
1946 - Dodgers beats Cubs 2-0 in 5 innings, games called because of gnats.
1950 - For a record sixth time, New York Yankee Johnny Mize hits 3 HRs in one game.
1952 - Braves last game in Boston's Braves Field before their move to Milwaukee.
1961 - 61st US Golf Amateur Championship is won by Jack Nicklaus.
1969 Cardinals Steve Carlton sets record by striking out 19 New York Mets in one game.
1978 - Los Angeles Dodgers become first major league team to draw 3 million fans.
1978 - Muhammad Ali defeats Leon Spinks in 15 rounds to capture Heavyweight boxing title.
1979 - Boston Red Sox Bob Watson become first major leaguer to hit for the cycle in AL & NL (Astros).
