1885 - Puritan (US) beats Genesta (England) in the 6th running of the America's Cup.
1930 - Phillies trailing 10-5, score 5 runs in the 9th inning, then the Pirates score 4 in the top of the 10th, so the Phillies score 5 in the bottom of the 10th to capture the win 15-14.
1939 - The New York Yankees clinch the 11th and 4th consecutive pennant.
1953 - The American League approves the St. Louis Browns move to become the Baltimore Orioles.
1957 - The Los Angeles City Council approves a 300-acre site in Chavez Ravine for the Dodgers.
1975 - The Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Chicago Cubs 22-0 as Pirate Rennie Stennett becomes only the third player in history to go 7-7.
1987 - California Angels Bob Boone catches record 1919th major league games.
1988 - The Cincinnati Reds Tom Browning pitches a perfect game against Los Angeles.
1993 - Minnesota Twins Dave Winfield becomes only the 19th player in major league history to collect 3,000 hits.
1995 - Atlanta Braves Greg Maddux sets record for 17 consecutive road victories.
