1962 - Washington senator Tom Cheney strikes out record 21 Orioles in 16 inning game.
1971 - 85th US Womens Tennis:  Billie Jean King defeats Rosemary Casals 6-4 & 7-6.
1976 - 96th US Mens Tennis:  Jimmy Connors defeats Bjorn Borg 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 & 6-4.
1976 - Seattle Seahawks play their first regular season football game, St. Louis 30 & Seattle 24.
1979 - Carl Yastrzemski becomes the 15th player in major league history to collect 3,000 hits.
