Greyson Lambert will start for Georgia vs. North Carolina

Georgia has reportedly made its decision on a starting quarterback for Week 1.

Greyson Lambert will start vs. North Carolina on Saturday. Lambert was the team’s primary starting quarterback in 2015 and beat out Jacob Eason (as well as Brice Ramsey) for the starting job for the beginning of 2016.

Lambert was efficient and unspectacular in 2016. The Virginia transfer was 162-256 passing for 1,959 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions. His performance over the season was overshadowed by Georgia’s mess at the QB position vs. Florida. Faton Bauta started vs. Florida and threw four interceptions as Georgia lost to the Gators.

Bauta is now at Colorado State.

Eason was the No. 1 pro-style quarterback recruit in the class of 2016 and the No. 7 prospect in the entire class. Per the AJC report, it’s unclear if he’ll play vs. North Carolina. We’re betting he will. It’s not unsurprising that he won’t start against UNC, especially given Lambert’s status as a senior. But given that the quarterback competition (at least publicly) went down to the final week of the preseason, it’s not hard to assume Eason showed enough to get some early playing time.

But no matter who plays at QB, he won’t have to be the focal point of the offense. With Nick Chubb’s return and a loaded backfield behind him, the Bulldogs will once again have a run-heavy offense.
