Chargers lose Danny Woodhead to torn ACL, one week after losing Keenan Allen

Bad news for the San Diego Chargers: the MRI is back on Danny Woodhead’s right knee, and it confirmed the team’s worst fears – Woodhead tore his ACL and is done for the year.
It’s the second straight week the Chargers have lost a standout skill player to a torn ACL; last week, it was receiver Keenan Allen.
Woodhead played in all 16 games for San Diego in 2015 and was one of the most versatile backs in the NFL. He had 98 carries for 336 yards and three touchdowns and was also the Chargers’ leading receiver, with 80 catches for 755 yards and six touchdowns.
The 31-year old Woodhead left Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars toward the end of the first quarter, grabbing his knee after a four-yard reception. He was tackled by the Jaguars’ Telvin Smith on the play.
Woodhead suffered a season-ending ankle injury just three games into the 2014 season.
If there is any silver lining to Woodhead’s injury, it is that it will likely create more opportunities for second-year back Melvin Gordon. Gordon had the first 100-yard game of his career on Sunday, with 102 yards on 24 carries.
