On Saturday, the Padres signed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin to a one-year deal, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Chacin will earn $1.75 million.
Heyman adds that Chacin turned down “significantly more money” because the Padres offer him an opportunity in the starting rotation.
Chacin, 28, made 22 starts and 12 relief appearances between the Braves and Angels last season, finishing with a 4.81 ERA and a 119/55 K/BB ratio in 144 innings. With the Padres’ rotation as thin as it is, Chacin might end up starting on Opening Day.
