Let it never be said that LeBron James isn’t a man of his word:
If you’re wondering why the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player and three-time champion is cosplaying as Andre Dawson on Friday, let us take you back to the long, long ago of late October, when the Cleveland Indians, James’ hometown baseball team, were poised to take on the Chicago Cubs, the local nine of new Chicago Bulls shooting guard and LeBron’s former Miami Heat teammate/longtime friend Dwyane Wade, in the 2016 World Series:
The #WorldSeries bet is on! @DwyaneWade (@Cubs) sends @KingJames (@Indians) the official wager. pic.twitter.com/h71F22FqJA— UNINTERRUPTED (@uninterrupted) October 26, 2016
As you surely know, the Cubs won the World Series in thrilling fashion, coming back from a 3-1 deficit (hmm) to knock off Cleveland and put James on the hook to show up for the Cavs’ next matchup with the Bulls in Chicago in his Opening Day finest, Cubbie-blue cap and all. James insisted earlier this week that he’d follow through, and now, he has.
”It’s a bet,” James said. ”You have to fulfill your bet. Nothing more to it.”
Losing a bet to a buddy is never fun, but hey, look on the bright side, Bron-Bron. Now you know you can make a pinstripe ‘fit work. That warming thought ought to help you get through a frigid Friday evening in the City of Wind. (The long pants won’t hurt, either.)
