Kris Bryant’s baseball career so far? Not so bad. He has an MVP award and Rookie of the Year award in his first two seasons. He hit a homer in the All-Star game. Oh, and you might have heard, he and the Chicago Cubs finally won the World Series.
Here’s another cool honor for Bryant heading into 2017: He’s card No. 1 in Topps’ 2017 baseball-card set. Topps unveiled Bryant’s 2017 card on Thursday. Have a look:
You may not know this, but there’s a certain prestige with being picked as card No. 1 in the Topps set. In the past. Among the previous No. 1s: Jackie Robinson (1953), Ted Williams (1954, 1957, 1958), Roger Maris (1962), Willie Mays (1966) and Hank Aaron (1974, 1975, 1976).
Likewise, the No. 1 card from the past 10 years looks like a who’s who of baseball the past decade:
2016 – Mike Trout
2015 – Derek Jeter
2014 – Mike Trout
2013 – Bryce Harper
2012 – Ryan Braun
2011 – Ryan Braun
2010 – Prince Fielder
2009 – Alex Rodriguez
2008 – Alex Rodriguez
2015 – Derek Jeter
2014 – Mike Trout
2013 – Bryce Harper
2012 – Ryan Braun
2011 – Ryan Braun
2010 – Prince Fielder
2009 – Alex Rodriguez
2008 – Alex Rodriguez
This isn’t all because of Bryant, though. Cubs fans and baseball-card collectors own a part of this too. Last year, Topps turned the No. 1 card into an online vote last season. Bryant was one of 16 finalists this year and, ultimately, the winner.
