Major League Soccer will play its 2017 All-Star Game at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The longtime home of the Chicago Bears, Soldier Field hosted the Fire for seven seasons before the club moved to Toyota Park in the suburbs. Chicago last hosted the All-Star Game in 2006, to commemorate Toyota Park’s first season.
The opponent is not yet confirmed, but speculation has centered around Barcelona, which would certainly be a club capable of filling the 61,500 seat venue.
In recent years, MLS has used the All-Star Game to showcase its growing fleet of soccer-specific stadiums. This will mark the first time since 2010 that the game has been played at a larger football stadium. That year, more than 70,000 people saw the all-stars lose to Manchester United.
