Knicks and Bulls interested in trading for Ricky Rubio

Ricky Rubio's name may be on the trade block, but it doesn't mean he's not a highly coveted player.
According to Sam Amico of Amico Hoops, both the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks have shown interest in acquiring the Minnesota Timberwolves point guard:
"The Bulls and Knicks have a strong interest in available Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio, per multiple sources."
While Amico doesn't elaborate much further than that, it seems like an odd pairing for both teams. First of all, the Bulls may need a starting point guard with Rajon Rondo likely on his way out. However, they don't have three-pointer shooters. Suffice to say, Rubio is not a good three-point shooter, converting at just a 24.1 percent clip this season.
Secondly, the Knicks already have their starting point guard in Derrick Rose. While he nearly created a public relations storm a couple of weeks ago when he missed a game without notifying the team, he has been a quality consistent starter for an inconsistent team. It seems almost pointless to acquire another point guard when the team already has Brandon Jennings as a backup.
It's not known what either of these teams would give up for the 26-year-old Rubio, but it's pretty clear that the Timberwolves intend to get rid of their former first-round draft pick by the trade deadline in February.
