The NFL’s ludicrous handling of Ken Stabler’s legacy shouldn’t surprise anyone that knows anything about the league. His family is being denied the Hall of Fame ring and jacket awarded to inductees since Stabler was admitted to the HoF posthumously.
The reasoning behind the decision is laughable: The league says they don’t want family members fighting over the items or trying to sell them. On Sunday fellow Raiders legend Charles Woodson sounded off on the league’s reasoning.
“Whatever problems you have, let his family get the ring, get the jacket. Come on, Hall of Fame committee.”
The committee Woodson is referring to is the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Board of Trustees it includes Roger Goodell and several owners, including Jerry Jones and Jim Haslam. Raiders owner Mark Davis has been outspoken against the decision, saying there’s no reason he should have his father’s Hall of Fame ring and jacket while the families of Bruce Allen, Junior Seau, Dick Stanfell and now Kenny Stabler don’t have their father’s ring.
Oscar-winning actor and lifelong Raiders fan Tom Hanks weighed in on it too.
