Kevin Love’s career-high with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 34 points. Love tied that in the first quarter — yes, first quarter — against the Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
Love knocked down eight three-pointers, shooting 11-of-14 from the field with four made free throws. The 34 points is an NBA record for a first quarter, the second most ever in any quarter, and three shy of Klay Thompson’s 37-point third quarter last season. Love’s eight threes is one off of Thompson’s record of nine threes, too.Love had an open look at a three with about a minute left that could have tied both records, but it rimmed out. On the last possession in the quarter, Kyrie Irving looked off Love and took the final shot himself.
Love has scored more than 34 points 21 times in his career, but all were with the Minnesota Timberwolves. His career high is 51 points in March 2012.

Ed Davis is the unfortunate Trail Blazer who had to guard Love in this quarter. Portland only trailed by 15 points, 46-31, when the quarter ended, even though Love outscored their entire team.
