UFC president Dana White announced the fighter bonuses stemming from UFC 205 during the event's post-fight press conference at Madison Square Garden in the early morning hours on Sunday. Conor McGregor, Yoel Romero, Tyron Woodley, and Stephen Thompson earned the $50,000 performance-based incentives.
Fight of the Night was awarded to the co-main event between welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and top contender Stephen Thompson. Woodley secured a takedown in the first round and bloodied the challenger. Thompson came back and began to pick Woodley apart in the second and third frames. Woodley nearly finished “Wonderboy” in the fourth with strikes and a submission, but Thompson rebounded in the fifth resulting in a Majority Draw.
In the main event, Conor McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two world titles at the same time when he finished Eddie Alvarez to capture the lightweight belt. McGregor dropped Alvarez three times in the opening frame and put him away early in the second round after knocking Alvarez down for the fifth time.
Yoel Romero earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus for his third-round knockout win over former middleweight champion Chris Weidman. Heading into the third round of their main card bout, the scorecards were tied. Early in the final frame, Weidman ducked down, looking for a takedown. Romero perfectly timed a flying knee that sent the former titleholder crashing to the canvas. The finish came seconds later.
UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor featured five decisions, one submission win, two knockout finishes, and one draw.
