As the remnants of Hurricane Matthew continue up the east coast, Major League Baseball was forced to make another weather decision on Sunday. With the forecast in Boston calling for at least a 60 percent chance of rain all afternoon and evening, it was a fairly easy one. Game 3 of the Cleveland Indians-Boston Red Sox American League Division Series has been postponed and will be played on Monday at 6:08 p.m. ET.

Game 4, if it’s necessary, will be pushed back until Tuesday. It also means David Ortiz’s career will be extended at least 24 hours, as the Red Sox attempt to dig out of an 0-2 hole.
On Saturday, Game 2 of the Dodgers-Nationals NLDS was postponed due to similar weather concerns. Rains fell throughout the afternoon at Nationals Park, causing MLB to pull the plug about an hour before the scheduled first pitch. Reports later in the evening suggested there may have been a window to play, but the league didn’t want to risk hanging fans out to dry with long delays. Field conditions also would have been less than ideal.
Mother Nature is rarely predictable, but there seems to be a more concrete forecast to support Sunday’s decision. We just hope this will be the final interruption to our postseason proceedings.
