This is the Rawlings Gold Glove award presented to Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Starling Marte before a baseball game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals in Pittsburgh, Sunday, April 3, 2016.
Much like the Hollywood awards season, baseball has its own awards season. With the World Series already at Game 3 and the end of baseball staring everyone in the face, that means awards time is upon us. The Rawlings Gold Glove Awards, given for defensive excellence, got an early jump on things, announcing the three finalists for every American League and National League position on Thursday afternoon.
They made their announcement via Twitter, with one tweet for each position in each league, 18 in all. To spare you the insanity of trying to figure out every player’s Twitter handle, I’ll give you a Twitter-free rundown.

In the AL, 13 of 15 teams were represented, with the Minnesota Twins and the Oakland Athletics left without a finalist. Over in the NL, 14 teams had at least one finalist, with just the New York Mets left out. Only one team in each league had four finalists: the Tigers in the AL, and the Cubs in the NL. As far as the distribution of finalists over teams in both leagues, it seems pretty even.
The 18 Gold Gloves, one for each position in the AL and the NL, will be announced in a live show on Nov. 8 on ESPN. Baseball will be over by that point, so it’ll be a great way to get your fix.
