Thanks to Mother Nature, there was no baseball Saturday afternoon in Washington. In the place of NLDS Game 2, we were instead treated to a one-hour studio show featuring the Fox Sports 1 pregame and postgame crew.
Yes, that meant an hour of all your favorite analysts, including C.J. Nitkowski, Frank Thomas, Pete Rose and Alex Rodriguez, and it did not disappoint. In fact, those 60 minutes created as much intrigue as a typical postseason game thanks to one subtle comment by A-Rod.
Pete Rose says Ortiz could be lacing up shoes 4 last time, then asks A-Rod: "How's that feel?" A-Rod: "Stay tuned." Ummm … he's not done.— Chris De Luca (@ChrisDeLuca) October 8, 2016
Since finishing his Yankees playing career in August, we’ve heard a wide range of rumors and speculation regarding A-Rod’s future. For the most part, it’s seemed to lean toward A-Rod not returning, but no one was ready to completely buy that until spring training 2017 arrived and he wasn’t on someone’s roster.
Rodriguez’s simple two-word answer here is more than enough fuel to keep that fire burning, and may even lead to an inferno of new speculation in the coming days.
Of course, we all know A-Rod isn’t above stirring the pot to create interest either. Everything he says is calculated, but he’s always made it difficult to not take the bait. We’ll bite again this time, and probably the next time and the time after that too.
Oh, and speaking of that Fox Sports 1 broadcast, we also got the sequel to Pete Rose’s infamous rain-delay videobomb from the 2015 postseason.
