Transfer found out he wasn't going to Syracuse on Twitter

(Rich Barnes - USA TODAY Sports)Gabe Sherrod says he found out on Twitter he wouldn’t be attending Syracuse.
Sherrod, a graduate transfer defensive end from FCS Delaware State, committed to Syracuse in late February. However, Scout.com reported Saturday night that Sherrod and the Orange “parted ways.” That was news to Sherrod.
“I was just in shock,” Sherrod said Sunday in an interview with Syracuse.com. “I literally found out through Twitter.”
Sherrod spoke with “an unnamed non-coaching SU staff member” late Saturday and confirmed the news: he won’t play for the Orange.
“The only thing that I'll tell you is it's definitely a misconception,” Sherrod said. “They felt that they needed to move on for their own protection to make sure that they had somebody locked in.”
After racking up 64 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and eight sacks as a redshirt junior for the Hornets in 2015, Sherrod was expected to make an instant impact at Syracuse. He is on pace to finish his degree in mathematics next week, so academics weren’t an issue. Scout reported simply that Syracuse was “moving in another direction.” According to Syracuse.com, there were rumblings that Sherrod spoke with other schools while committed to the Orange, including a “rumored visit to Michigan State.”
Sherrod had no comment on those alleged interactions.
“At the end of the day, it’s a business. But it’s easier to understand when you’re 22 than 18,” Sherrod said.
Earlier on Saturday, Syracuse accepted a graduate transfer from another defensive end – DeJon Wilson, formerly of Colorado.

De'Jon Wilson
I'm blessed & honored to be apart of a prestigious program like Syracuse, I want to thank GOD 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊

Wilson saw action in 22 games for Colorado, but didn’t play in 2015. After redshirting in 2012, Wilson combined for 19 tackles, two tackles for loss and half a sack in 2013 and 2014.
Wilson has one year of eligibility remaining.
