Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay recently said that Andrew Luck would receive a new deal prior to the holiday weekend. Irsay beat the deadline and didn’t back down from that statement — in fact, he broke the news on Twitter.
Of course, it was lacking some details — you know, such as years, total money, guaranteed dollars, Luck’s full name …

Andrew has signed through 2021

The Colts’ official Twitter account backed it up seconds later. They added Luck’s last name in a fancy graphic, which is nice.

Luck said in a statement that he’s “thrilled and excited to continue with this great organization. I am thankful to the Irsay family and Mr. Irsay for providing me with this great opportunity and the trust that they’ve shown in me. I can’t wait for this season to start.”
Added Irsay: “This is an exciting day for the organization and Colts fans around the globe. Andrew is the consummate professional, possesses extraordinary talent and is our leader on and off the field. When you consider what this team has accomplished in four seasons with Andrew under center, you cannot help but be thrilled about the future.”
It appears that Luck will become the highest-paid player in the game on an annual basis, too. Check out what NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter are reporting on some of the specifics, which are not shocking, even after Luck’s injury-plagued flameout in 2015. That’s been the direction this thing has headed for a long time.

On his 5-year extension, #Colts QB Andrew Luck is now the highest paid player in the NFL, source said. Puts him over Joe Flacco's $22.1M.

The Colts can’t afford to have Luck getting sliced up again — anyone remember that lacerated kidney last season? Luck certainly did. Which is why he wasted no time doing this:
