Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Marlins are letting hitting coach Barry Bonds go after one season. According to Craig Mish of Sirius XM Radio, manager Don Mattingly called out Bonds on a road trip, and his commitment level apparently dwindled. Mish also adds that Giancarlo Stanton “tuned out” Bonds after Bonds was critical of the 2016 Home Run Derby champion — sometimes in front of others.
While the Marlins made some strides offensively, the club still ranked third from the bottom in the National League, averaging 4.07 runs per game. They had the second-highest batting average (.263), but the seventh-best on-base percentage (.322) and the fourth-worst slugging percentage (.394).
Bonds and Mattingly urged owner Jeffrey Loria not to trade outfielder Marcell Ozuna during the offseason, an effort that reaped rewards. Ozuna hit .266/.321/.452 with 23 home runs and 76 RBI. Outfielder Christian Yelich also thrived, presumably due in some part to Bonds.

Andy Slater of 940-AM WINZ reports that the Marlins will also let go of third base coach Lenny Harris and bullpen coach Reid Cornelius.
