Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis isn't going to let a little broken arm keep him from Super Bowl 50.
Davis, who has managed to play at an All-Pro level despite tearing the same ACL three times, broke his arm in the NFC championship game. He had surgery on Monday. And despite the fact that he won't be able to get through a metal detector at the airport anymore, he plans to play through the injury.
"A plate and probably around 11 or 12 screws in my arm right now," Davis told NFL Media, talking about the surgery. "It is what it is.
"(My status) hasn't changed, still looking forward to playing on Super Bowl Sunday." That's tough.
It's also not surprising. Davis has worked through injury adversity in the past. And at 32 years old, how many Super Bowl opportunities does he have left? Despite having a magnificent 11-year career in Carolina, he had been in just seven playoff games before this season, and never a Super Bowl.
If Davis can play and be close to his normal self, that's huge for the Panthers. A lot of their defensive identity is built around having two linebackers, Davis and Luke Kuechly, who cover an amazing amount of ground sideline to sideline.
It appears the Panthers will have Davis, one of their defensive stars, for Super Bowl 50. It doesn't sound like anything would keep Davis from playing in this game.
