Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco may be recovering from a torn ACL, but that hasn't stopped the Ravens from committing to keep their franchise QB around for years to come.
Via multiple reports on Wednesday morning, Baltimore and Flacco have agreed to a three-year contract extension that will run through 2021. The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec tweeted that Joe Linta, Flacco's agent, is at the Ravens' facility to finalize the details.
Flacco signed a six-year, $120.6 million deal in March 2013, a month after leading the Ravens to victory in Super Bowl XLVII, a postseason run that saw him throw 11 touchdowns and no interceptions.
But under the terms of that deal, Flacco was set to count $28.5 million against the salary cap for 2016, and both sides knew a renegotiation would be necessary. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora said the new deal will free up roughly $6 million in cap space for this year and $13 million total for 2016-17.
UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Caplan reported that Flacco's extension is worth $66.4 million with $44 million of that fully guaranteed, broken down as a $40 million signing bonus and $4 million in base salary in year one of the deal.
Baltimore has set a press conference for 2 p.m. EST Wednsday, with Flacco, head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Ozzie Newsome set to attend.
Flacco tore his ACL in Week 11 last year, as Baltimore hosted the St. Louis Rams. He was completing 64.4 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions at the time of the injury. A first-round pick in 2008, Flacco started the first 122 games of his career.
