Defensive tackle Kenny Bigelow suffered a torn ACL during Thursday’s practice and will miss seven to nine months, according to coach Clay Helton.
Bigelow, a five-star recruit in 2013, redshirted his first season with the program and then missed all of 2014 after tearing ligaments in his knee right before fall camp.
He played in all 13 games last season as a backup, amassing 10 tackles and three sacks.
However, Bigelow was expected to be a starter this year and the anchor of a defensive line that is short on experience after losing five seniors, including all three starters, from 2015.
Depending on Bigelow’s rehab, there’ a chance he might be able to return to the Trojans in October. However, if he needs the full nine months to recover, he’ll miss yet another season to injury.
