Clippers band together for meeting with DeAndre Jordan

The Clippers believe they have a good shot to keep DeAndre Jordan. (Getty Images)Clippers president and coach Doc Rivers and a gaggle of players descended upon Houston and met with free agent DeAndre Jordan on Wednesday afternoon, believing the result would be him changing course and returning to the franchise, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Clippers officials are determined to keep Jordan separated from Dallas owner Mark Cuban until midnight EST on Thursday, when the league's moratorium on free-agent deals is lifted and Jordan can sign a contract, league sources said.
Cuban has traveled to Houston to meet with Jordan, but it's unclear whether he'll get the opportunity, sources said.
Nevertheless, the Clippers don't believe they can keep Cuban and the Mavericks away from Jordan throughout the evening and are bracing for Dallas to get one final chance to sway him back, league sources said.
Rivers traveled to Houston with owner Steve Ballmer and a group of players that included Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, Paul Pierce and J.J. Redick, league sources said.
Jordan's agents with Relativity Sports flew to Houston from Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, sources said.
Jordan's agents were not present in the meeting with Clippers officials.
Rivers had circumvented Jordan’s agents and gone directly to the center, league sources said.
Jordan committed to signing a four-year, $80 million contract with the Mavericks, but can’t sign any deal until the league’s moratorium is lifted on Thursday. Dallas became aware of the Clippers’ renewed pursuit on Wednesday morning and is planning an aggressive response, sources told Yahoo Sports.
