NFL rookie free agent shot in the face outside his home

NFL rookie free agent shot, wounded at Ohio homeJust before heading off to training camp to try to win a job as a receiver with the Arizona Cardinals, rookie Damond Powell was shot in the face Friday evening while in the driveway of his home.
The injuries do not appear to be life threatening, according to the Toledo Blade. The Blade, citing the police report, said Powell was sitting with friends in his driveway in South Toledo. Shots came from a vehicle down the street at approximately 8:36 p.m. The report said three suspects were seen wearing masks in the gold vehicle.
Powell played two seasons at the University of Iowa after starting his college career at Snow Community College in Ephraim, Utah. Last season Powell had 19 catches for 317 yards and three touchdowns. The Cardinals signed him as an undrafted free agent, and even before Friday's scary incident he had an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster.
