Philip Rivers Doubles Down on Move to Los Angeles

Mandatory Credit: Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY SportsWhen the announcement was made that the Los Angeles Chargers would become a reality, focus shifted immediately toward Philip Rivers, the franchise quarterback of 13 seasons. Faced with a similar situation prior to last season Rivers addressed his unwillingness to join in a franchise relocating outside of San Diego.
Rivers addressed his displeasure toward a move back in 2015. “My hesitation and my lack of excitement for a potential move was more about the thought of leaving [San Diego] than it was about disdain for L.A.,” Rivers said. “Again, that’s still out of my control. Nobody knows. It wasn’t a hatred of Los Angeles. It was more of a love for this community. This is where all but one of my children have been born and where my family has grown over the last decade.”
Once the move was announced rumors began to fly that the franchise quarterback was requesting a trade to San Francisco.
If true, Rivers most recent sentiments following the official announcement of the move occurring would appear extremely disingenuous.
“I have to get excited and fired up about going up to a new area and representing our team, our organization and going and trying to, shoot, win as many games as we can win and be the same guy that I’ve always been,” Rivers told NBC7 San Diego. “I’m just fired up all the time for whatever the task is. That’s just the only way I know. I hope as the dust settles a little bit. I know there are a lot of emotions right now, I hope people can understand that.”
Within almost an hour NFL insider Ian Rapoport quelled the upstart rumors.
Ready or not, it appears Rivers will be leading the charge in Los Angeles next season.
