In a different era, Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Bud Dupree’s hit on Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore would have been OK.
In the NFL in 2017, it was obviously illegal.
Dupree, not surprisingly, was fined for his vicious hit on Moore in last Sunday’s wild-card playoff game. Dupree was fined $18,231 by the NFL according to Tom Pelissero of USA Today. Moore was on the ground for a couple minutes as his Dolphins teammates let Dupree know they weren’t happy with the hit. Dupree was given a 15-yard penalty. Dupree lowered his head and hit Moore in the jaw with the crown of his helmet. Dupree said he will appeal the fine, according to Chris Mueller of the Beaver County Times.
The Dolphins handling of the situation has come under some question, and the league said it would look into if proper concussion protocol was followed. Moore sat out only one play before returning to the game.
