The former world No. 1 cruised past No. 8 Madison Keys in straight sets Sunday to advance to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal since 2014.
The past several years have been tough for Wozniacki, as she’s dealt with injuries and struggled to find the confidence that made her one of the game’s best.
But Wozniacki, who came into Flushing Meadows unseeded, has found her stride at the year’s last major. She’s already downed two top-10 players in Keys and No. 9 Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Sunday, Wozniacki executed a perfect game plan against the hard-hitting American, chasing down every ball and doing well to hold her serve. She had plenty of help from Keys, though, who hit 33 unforced errors.
“This is crazy,” Wozniacki said after the match. “After such a tough year to be here and into the quarterfinals is amazing.”
Next up, she’ll face Anastasija Sevastova for a semifinal spot.
