Cleveland Cavaliers shooter J.R. Smith has had a relatively poor NBA Finals so far, making one-third of his shot attempts or worse in four of five games and scoring more than 10 in just one. In the grand scheme of things, though, this has been a successful season for Smith. Now 30 years old, he continues to transition into a role as a veteran who coaches can slot into the rotation without making too many backbreaking mistakes. Smith won't be a team leader any time soon, but he's also not the erratic malcontent of years past. He works for Cleveland, and there's a decent chance he'll be able to cash in as a free agent this summer because of it.
One important member of Smith's family is extremely proud of all he's accomplished. On the other hand, his daughter Demi sure knows how to dish out a backhanded compliment. Here's what she said on ESPN's SportsCenter prior to Thursday's must-win Game 6 for the Cavaliers:
Demi apparently knows her father's reputation that led him to leave the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks under poor circumstances earlier in his career. Her parents also seem to have taught her a valuable lesson — that hard work is its own reward, and that winning is not the only reason to be proud of a loved one. This little girl is on the right track.
Of course, she also seems to have inherited her dad's for mischief. Enjoy those teenage years, J.R.
