After the Detroit Pistons waive forward Danny Granger on Monday, Granger will need approximately a month to complete rehabilitation on a plantar fasciitis injury in his left foot, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Once Granger, 32, has finished his rehab, he’s hoping to begin workouts with teams to resume his NBA career, sources said.
Granger was unable to participate in Pistons training camp and has to be released Monday so Detroit can trim its roster to 15 players for opening night.
Granger played 30 games with the Miami Heat a year ago before missing the balance of the season after getting traded to the Phoenix Suns. Granger spent the year successfully rehabbing a knee injury, until moving to the Detroit Pistons in a July deal.
Granger was one of the NBA’s top perimeter players before a series of knee injuries sidetracked his career in recent years.
In 10 seasons with the Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers and Heat, Granger averaged nearly 17 points in 586 career games.
Granger averaged a career-best 25.8 points a game in the 2008-09 season for the Pacers and made the All-Star team.
