Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey suffered what appears to be a serious ankle injury in today’s preseason game with the Packers.
Coach Mike Tomlin said after the game that Pouncey will likely require surgery, and Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Pouncey has a broken bone.
That’s brutal news for the Steelers. Pouncey was a first-team All-Pro last year, and losing him for any amount of time will make things tough for Pittsburgh’s offense.
It was also a brutal preseason game for the NFL, with both Pouncey and Packers receiver Jordy Nelson suffering serious injuries. Injuries are a part of life in the NFL, but when an injury happens in an exhibition game, it just feels needless. Pouncey and Nelson are two great players, lost in a meaningless game.
