Kimbrel claimed off waivers

In news that isn't really news, Craig Kimbrel was put on waivers after the July 31st trade deadline. No it's not because they don't like him. As I remind myself every year, to trade a player after the deadline they must be put them on waivers first. To keep their options open the Padres put basically everybody on waivers. If they are claimed off waivers by a mysterious major league baseball team, like Kimbrel was, the team has three options...
They can arrange a trade within two business days of the claim with the claiming team. If they choose not to, they can keep Kimbrel on the roster for the rest of the season, which they were planning on doing anyway, but now they can't trade him to any team. If they had done nothing then the claiming team assume Kimbrel's contract and must put them on their roster.
So what does this tell us? Kimbrel won't be traded for the remainder of the season and will remain on the roster. That's pretty cool, but something we were all expecting anyway.
