A day after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a UCLA football coach, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ representatives say he acted in self-defense.
“The various accounts of the event and charges that are being reported are wholly inaccurate,” Nathalie Moar, a rep for Combs Enterprises, told the Associated Press. “What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son.”
Diddy, 45, was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery by the UCPD. He was released later on Monday after posting $50,000 bail, police said.
“We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed,” Combs Enterprises said.
The school said the deadly weapon in question is a kettlebell – a piece of weightlifting equipment. According to reports, Diddy allegedly swung the kettlebell at an intern after he got into an altercation with UCLA strength coach Sal Alosi. Alosi had reportedly kicked Diddy’s son, Bruins junior cornerback Justin Combs, out of a workout earlier on Monday.
No one was seriously injured in the incident, the school said Monday.
UCLA head coach Jim Mora complimented his staff’s handling of the ordeal.
“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation," UCLA head coach Jim Mora said Monday in a statement. "This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”
On Tuesday afternoon, Justin Combs posted a photo with his father on Instagram with a caption that reads: "I thank God for having a father that's always there for me.. Love you pops!"
