Jose Calderon was only a member of the Golden State Warriors for two hours, but the organization still printed his jersey and paid him for his time spent with the team.
Warriors sign Matt Barnes, waive Jose Calderon. But there was still this jersey outside of the visiting locker room in Chicago: pic.twitter.com/EKUFUlMUZM— Michael Singer (@msinger) March 2, 2017
They paid the man $415k for a two-hour stay, AND cut the check for his jersey. The Calderon chapter... https://t.co/5oPr1vGUPA— Sam Amick (@sam_amick) March 2, 2017
Calderon was traded from the Chicago Bulls midseason to the Los Angeles Lakers, who waived him earlier in the week. The Warriors then claimed the Spanish point guard off the waiver wire.
But when Kevin Durant suffered a sprained MCL expected to sideline him for at least four weeks, Golden State had to fill its gaping hole at the forward spot. The Warriors, in turn, cut Calderon to create roster space in order to sign Matt Barnes.
Calderon spent all of two hours with the Warriors, but got a half-million dollars and some championship-caliber gear along the way.
Talk about a payday.
