When you win your first World Series championship in over 100 years, you’re allowed to celebrate excessively. The Chicago Cubs may have won the World Series a few months ago, but they are going to take one more victory lap at the start of the regular season. For one series, the team will wear jerseys with gold trim and lettering as a not so subtle shoutout to the World Series trophy.
The team’s official Twitter account gave fans a glimpse of what those uniforms would look like Friday:

Not too bad, right? You have to give the Cubs some credit for their restraint here. It would have been easy to go overboard with the gold and create a garish, unappealing jersey. These do a good job of getting the point across while still looking presentable.
If you’re still riding that Cubs World Series high and need one of these bad boys, you’ll have to act quickly. The jerseys will be available at the Cubs’ Team Store in Chicago. They will also go on sale on MLB.com on Saturday. Given that it’s the Cubs, we imagine they’ll sell out quickly, so you might want to get up early, make coffee and furiously refresh your computer until they are available.
As the above tweet states, the team will only be wearing the uniforms during its first home series. That will take place April 10-12 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After that, the Cubs will go back to their classic jerseys.
In the end, that’s probably for the best. It’s a new season, and the Cubs don’t want to live in the past for too long. Plus, the standard blue lettering brings out the color in Kris Bryant’s eyes.
