New York Jets running back Chris Johnson was arrested in Orlando, Fla., Friday night for open carrying of a firearm, which is a second-degree misdemeanor in the state. The incident, reported by the New York Post, occured in Johnson's hometown.
According to Pro Football Talk, Johnson has a license for carrying a firearm, but the arrest is for open carrying, which is prohibited.
Orlando Police confirmed Johnson's arrest but provided no more details.
“We are aware and have no comment at this time as this is a pending legal matter,” a Jets spokesman said, per the Post.
The Jets signed Johnson to a two-year, $4 million deal last April. He rushed 155 times for 663 yards and one touchdown and caught 24 passes for 151 yards and one TD this season.
Few expected the Jets to bring Johnson back next season prior to this incident, with the assumption that they will cut him in the new league year. This likely seals the deal.
