The Broncos have officially hired Gary Kubiak as their new head coach.
Monday morning brought an announcement from the team that they have hired their former backup quarterback and assistant coach to replace John Fox on the sideline. It’s a four-year deal for Kubiak.
“Gary Kubiak has established a track record of leadership, success and high character during his 30 seasons in the NFL. While there is no question he is a Bronco, what Gary has learned from his other opportunities around the league — especially in his eight seasons as a head coach — will tremendously benefit our organization,” General Manager John Elway said in a statement from the team. “Having coached on three Super Bowl champions and 11 playoff teams, Gary knows what it will take to deliver another World Championship to Broncos fans. Coach Kubiak is all about winning and doing things the right way, which are values that have always been most important to the Broncos and Owner Pat Bowlen. We are very excited to welcome Gary, and his wife, Rhonda, back to the Denver Broncos.”
Kubiak will be charged with keeping the Broncos at the top of the AFC West for a fifth straight season while also finding a way for them to win the Super Bowl title that eluded Fox in his four years in Denver. The return of Peyton Manning for a fourth year with the Broncos will weigh heavily on his ability to pull that off and now that the Broncos have a coach they’ll likely start work on making sure that happens.
