1951 - NY Yankees Gil McDougald wins the AL Rookie of the Year award.
1959 - Cleveland Browns' halfback Bobby Mitchell sets a club record for the longest run from scrimmage, 90 yards, while helping to defeat Washington 31-17.
1960 - Elgin Baylor of the Los Angeles Lakers scores 71 points against the New York Knicks.
1961 - Roger Maris is named the AL MVP.
1964 - Mickey Wright shoots a 62, the lowest golf score for a professional woman.
1967 - Boston red Sox Carl Yastrzemski wins the AL MVP award.
1972 - The AL MVP award is presented to Dick Allen of the White Sox.
1989 - Walter Davis of Denver begins his NBA free throw streak of 53 games.
1991 - Ricky Pierce of Seattle begins NBA free throw streak of 75 games.
