Four-time NBA champion Manu Ginobili has signed a one-year, $14 million deal to return to the San Antonio Spurs, league sources told The Vertical.
Both sides had been discussing terms and completed the deal Thursday, sources said. Ginobili, 38, opted out of his $2.9 million contract in June to become a free agent. He announced on Twitter on July 7 that he was returning to the franchise.
Ginobili’s return comes days after longtime teammate Tim Duncan announced his retirement after 19 seasons in the NBA.
Ginobili, a two-time All-Star and the 2008 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, returns to a Spurs team that added power forward/center Pau Gasol, a six-time All-Star, in free agency.
He has played his entire 14-year career with the Spurs, averaging 14 points, four assists, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
He averaged 9.6 points, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game last season, helping San Antonio to a franchise-best 67 regular-season victories.
Ginobili was the 57th overall selection of the Spurs in the 1999 NBA daft.
