Hill will be a fifth-year senior in 2016 after his previous senior season was cut short with a Lisfranc fracture in in the season opener against Nebraska. Hill has had three of his four seasons ended because of injuries.
Hill returning is certainly a boost for the Cougars. When healthy, Hill is one of the most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. In 2013, his only complete season as a starter, Hill passed for 2,938 yards and rushed for 1,344 yards.
In 2014, Hill played in five games, passed for 975 yards and rushed for 460 yards before suffering a broken leg and a torn ligaments against Utah State. Even though he only played one game in 2015, he still passed for 268 yards and rushed for 72 yards before he was sidelined.
Hill also suffered a season-ending knee injury against Utah State during his freshman season in 2012.
In Hill’s absence, sophomore Tanner Mangum became the Cougars' starting quarterback and led them to a 9-4 season, which ended with a loss to Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl.
There was some thought Hill might leave BYU this year and follow former coach Bronco Mendenhall to Virginia as a graduate transfer. Hill had not made any comments about his options until Tuesday’s tweet.
