Nebraska defensive lineman Randy Gregory celebrates after being selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the 60th pick in the second round of the 2015 NFL Football Draft, Friday, May 1, 2015, in Chicago

The Dallas Cowboys' talented but troubled defensive end was suspended four games to start the 2016 NFL season, the league announced on Friday. His problems with substances were well-known and documented at Nebraska and in junior college, and Gregory entered the NFL with a reputation to overcome.
He hasn't yet done so. A four-game suspension is handed down after multiple failed tests, and Gregory is entering his second NFL season now. That's not good.
Gregory was taken 60th overall by the Cowboys near the end of Round 2, and he spoke at the draft about wanting to prove people wrong. After testing positive at the NFL scouting combine, the media started to find out what NFL teams knew for a long time: Gregory had issues that ran deeper than just a positive marijuana test.
"Hopefully just this whole ride, being in the NFL, will be fun enough and so I won't have to go down that road and there won't be anxiety," Gregory said at the time.
But that anxiety is back — both for Gregory and for the Cowboys. The team now must decide whether it's worth bringing back Greg Hardy as a free agent after a season in which he was suspended for four games for his domestic violence rap. That's one troublesome solution for another problem.
Gregory had a few moments as a rookie on the field, providing 15 QB hurries in 250 snaps according to Pro Football Focus, but he had zero sacks and missed Weeks 2-6 with a high-ankle sprain.
In typical Friday-news-dump form that follows the NFL playbook to a tee, the league also announced suspensions for Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Mike Pennel (four games) and Baltimore Ravens tight end Nick Boyle (10 games).
