New England Patriots reportedly cut Reggie Wayne after he requests it

LINING UP: Brady, Pats head to Carolina; Titans face ChiefsThe Reggie Wayne era in New England didn't last long.
Wayne, the longtime Indianapolis Colts receiver, was out of work this offseason until the Patriots signed him on Aug. 24. The Patriots gave him a $450,000 signing bonus. Less than two weeks later, Wayne asked to be released, according to reports from ESPN.
The Patriots granted his wishes. Wayne was released. Because he requested to be cut, he will probably be returning his signing bonus as well. Now we wait to see what Wayne's future is. He'll turn 37 during this season.

The Patriots brought in Wayne because they needed some depth at receiver as they deal with some injuries at that spot. Wayne probably would have helped early in the season, and now the Patriots might be searching around available receivers for a potential contributor.
