Jerry Remy has a relapse of lung cancer

BOSTON - OCTOBER 03: Former Red Sox second baseman Jerry Remy throws out the first pitch before the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels meet for Game one of the American League Division Series on October 3, 2007 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty Images)Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008, had surgery to remove part of his lung. His recovery was a long one, but he made a recovery all the same and continues to be an institution in the Red Sox booth. He recently signed a contract extension with NESN.
Sad news now, as NESN announced this morning that Remy’s cancer has returned. He will speak about it later this afternoon. There’s no sense yet of how much time he’ll miss.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to Remy and Sox fans everywhere for whom he provides a key part of the soundtrack for each summer.
