Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot was detained by police in Columbus, OH on Friday night. He was headed to The Social Bar when a cop flashed a flashlight in his face. Zeke was then detained for about four minutes, according to TMZ.
The TMZ report reads as follows:
Ezekiel Elliott’s night was abruptly interrupted by cops after they detained and questioned him….before letting him go.
An eyewitness tells us the Cowboys star was on his way to The Social bar Friday night in Columbus, OH when suddenly, and for unknown reasons, a cop lit a flashlight on his face and detained him for about 4 minutes….before letting him go.
There is no word on why the officer detained Elliot, but a video was released in which the officer searched his trunk. The Columbus Police Department have yet to give an answer as to why the running back was detained. This seems as if it will pass, however as no charges were filed.
In a since-deleted tweet, Elliott initially refuted the report of him being detained.
“I was never “detained” by police. Nor was I ever questioned or in any type of trouble. [?],” he tweeted out.
Elliott remains under NFL investigation for domestic violence since last July.
The Columbus (Ohio) Police Department decided against arresting him in September due to conflicting information and the district attorney also declined to pursue charges. He could still face a fine or even a suspension from the league as commissioner Roger Goodell has said there is no set date for closure of the league’s investigation.
Elliott was drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft. He rushed for 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns during his rookie season. The Cowboys finished with a 13-3 record, but fell to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.
