The Rockies announced on Tuesday that shortstop Trevor Story has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. The club recalled infielder Rafael Ynoa from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Story suffered the injury on Sunday in the fourth inning against the Mets. Losing the rookie is a big blow for the Rockies, who are surprisingly in the thick of things at 52-53. It’s a big blow for Story as well, as he was in the conversation for the National League Rookie of the Year Award. He leads the NL with 27 home runs along with 72 RBI and a .272/.341/.567 triple-slash line in 415 plate appearances.
Story expects to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his thumb, MLB.com’s Thomas Harding reports.
