Baseball is probably the furthest thing from the mind of Jacob deGrom right now, and that's completely understandable given the circumstances his family is facing.
According to Mets manager Terry Collins, deGrom was placed on the bereavement/emergency list on Saturday due to a family emergency related to his newborn son, Jaxon.
Collins did not reveal any details beyond that, other than to state deGrom and his family are dealing with a "real-lfe situation"

"We're all praying and pulling for him," Collins says of deGrom. The family has been dealing with complications since baby Jaxon's birth.

The 2014 NL Rookie of the Year left the team to be with his wife Stacey for Jaxon's birth on Monday. According to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News, deGrom has remained close to his family since then.
DeGrom is also attempting to work through a right lat muscle issue that cost him his scheduled start on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins. According to multiple reports, he was unable to complete a bullpen session on Friday in Port St. Lucie, Fla., because he wasn't feeling well enough physically. Though one has to wonder if his mind and maybe his energy were elsewhere.
By rule, deGrom must remain on the medical emergency list at least three days but no more than seven days. Given his physical condition, deGrom was not expected to pitch during that timeframe anyway. But we're all certainly hoping that things will take a turn for the better sooner than later.
