Raptors C Jonas Valanciunas opts for rehab instead of hand surgery

Valanciunas suffered the injury in the fourth metacarpal in his non-shooting hand during Friday’s win against the Los Angeles Lakers. The seven-footer opted to rehab his hand instead of surgery.
The Raptors are 8-6 entering Sunday’s game against the Clippers, and will miss the team’s leading rebounder for an extended period of time, opening more minutes for backup Bismack Biyombo and potentially Anthony Bennett. Valanciunas is averaging 12.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in 27.3 minutes per game over 14 contests.
Valanciunas missed 18 games with the same injury in his right hand during the 2012-13 season.
Valanciunas signed a four-year contract extension with the Raptors before the season.
