Lions start first step of rebuilding organization, name new team president

Head coach Jim Caldwell presumably could be gone after the season too.
The Lions, who have seemingly been rebuilding for decades, hope the latest shakeup changes things. The first piece of the puzzle was put in place on Thursday, when owner Martha Firestone Ford announced that Rod Wood will be the new team president.
The 55-year-old Wood will report to Ford, and will oversee the business side of the organization. Wood is familiar with the organization and the family; he has been resident and CEO of Ford Estates the past eight years. He'll have a big job right away, being part of a search advisory board that will find the team's next general manager.
“Rod’s familiarity with our organization in his role as President and CEO of Ford Estates and his accomplishments in the business world not only make him an ideal choice as Team President, but will also help ensure a smooth and positive transition for our organization," Ford said in a team statement.
“It was critical to me and my family to fill the President’s position as soon as possible, provided we identified the right person,” Mrs. Ford continued. “I am confident Rod is the right person.
“I also believe Rod’s appointment now gives us the ability to move more decisively with respect to our search for a general manager."
The search to replace general manager Martin Mayhew is critical. The GM search advisory board will consist of Wood and five members of the Ford family including Martha Firestone Ford, the team's announcement said.
The Lions have won one playoff game since 1957, none since the end of the 1991 season and started this season 1-7. The Lions have been chasing some bit of success for a long, long time, and the start of that turnaround will come with a revamped front office. Wood and the rest of the Ford family has a big job ahead of it finding the right general manager to assemble the roster.
