It's not everyday you receive a package in the mail containing 205 diamonds, but that's exactly what Brandon Browner found waiting for him on Thursday.
The former Patriots corner, who signed with the Saints as a free agent this offseason, posted a photo to Instagram showing the Super Bowl ring he earned by helping New England to its fourth championship in 14 years. The image also showed the handwritten post-script on the note addressed to Browner from Patriots chairman and CEO Robert Kraft.
"I'm truly sorry you left us," Kraft wrote, "you were one of my favorites in the locker room!"
According to the Patriots, the Super Bowl XLIX rings were the largest Super Bowl rings ever made, featuring 205 diamonds. In 2003 and 2004, when the Patriots won back-to-back Super Bowls, the championship rings had 104 and 124 diamonds, respectively.
The rings, which were handcrafted by Jostens, were cast in white gold and included the recipient’s name as well as the years of the franchise’s four Super Bowl Championships in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2014. Four mini Lombardi Trophies and the team logo sit atop the ring, which also memorializes the three-word mantra that the 2014 Patriots embraced: "Do your job."
