Corey Perry was fine with the hit delivered by Minnesota Wild defenseman Keith Ballard on Friday night. He was actually mad at himself for seeing the hit coming and being unable to avoid it.
On Tuesday Perry learned that he’ll miss the next 3-4 weeks with a knee sprain. The Anaheim Ducks forward has been through this before on his other knee, so he’s familiar with the rehab process.
It’s been a rough month for Perry, who missed five games in November after coming down with the mumps. He has 14 goals and 22 points in 23 games for the Ducks this season.
While one old standard leaves the lineup for a month, an old friend will soon return. The Ducks also announced that they’ve signed Ilya Bryzgalov to a one-year contract worth $2.88 million. (As Chris Johnston points out, that’s a higher cap hit than Frederik Andersen, John Gibson and Jason LaBarbera combined.)
Bryzgalov will go to Norfolk of the AHL on a conditioning assigment, with his first start for the Admirals coming on Wednesday. Once he's back up to NHL speed, he'll provide a veteran presence behind Andersen in the Anaheim net.
Gibson is slated to be fully healthy later this month and Pierre LeBrun reported last week that its expected he'll spend most of his time in the AHL once he returns now that Bryz is back in town.
